Welcome to the Basic Electrical Engineering course by Guruswamy! In this course, you will delve into the exciting world of electrical engineering and gain a solid understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts that form the foundation of this important field.
D.C. Circuits
The first unit of this course is focused on DC circuits. In this unit, students will be introduced to the basic principles of DC circuits, including electrical circuit elements such as resistors, inductors, and capacitors, as well as voltage and current sources. They will also learn about circuit analysis techniques such as Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL) and Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL), which allow for the analysis of electrical circuits in terms of the relationships between voltage, current, and resistance.
Active Elements
Active elements, also known as active circuit elements, are components in an electrical circuit that can either source or sink electrical energy. These elements are responsible for controlling the flow of current and voltage in a circuit, and include devices such as transistors, operational amplifiers, and electronic switches.

Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL) states that the total current entering a node (a point in a circuit where multiple components are connected) is equal to the total current leaving that node. Mathematically, it can be represented as the sum of currents entering a node is zero.

Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law (KVL) states that the sum of all the voltage drops in a closed loop of a circuit is equal to the sum of all the voltage rises in that same loop. Mathematically, it can be represented as the sum of voltage drops and rises around a closed loop is zero.
